Managers comments:
Mixed feelings about this game. First, K&D reported the result as 96-5 for them. I have checked, double checked and checked again the scorebook and my own scoresheets and I can only come up with 86 runs. They still won though!
I felt we bowled really well as a unit in this game. Gabriel, Ashish and Roshan were particularly impressive as was Sam Shepherds newly found pace! Milans spin was very good and Harrison, Ritesh and Luke also contributed positively. The fielding started very well but I thought we became a bit sluggish and our concentration dwindled towards the end of their innings allowing them to pick up lots of quick singles. (maybe that’s where the additional ten runs came from !!!!!)
I think our batting let us down a bit in this game though their bowling attack was particularly impressive. We need to get into a more positive mindset, score quicker, take chances to get singles, and run quicker! Blocking is good but I think with a little bit more of a positive mindset we should go for shots when chasing the game rather than blocking as a first choice shot. This is not a criticism, just an observation.
Champagne moment goes to Will Brownsword for a huge six in the third over. (Nice one Will, where did that come from?!) and also thanks once again to Neena for helping with the scoring and thanks to anyone else who helped out but I have failed to mention.
My final note regards sledging. K&D like to “sledge”, no problem at all with that. It’s part of the game and in time we need to give as well as we take. However K&Ds sledging at times in this game bordered on the unacceptable and should not be condoned. Laughing and taking the micky out of a batsman for apparently having a “cheap” bat is out of order and not acceptable. This is where sledging turns into arrogance and K&D are good enough without having to revert to this kind of low comment. I spoke to the lad who made the comment during the game but i’m not sure he realized the error of his ways. Was I disappointed – yes I was as the implication was more than just the quality of the bat. I hope none of our players ever take sledging to this low as cricket is for everyone from all walks of life, not just the privileged. Apologies for making this comment but I feel it needs to be said.
